Sentenced to 17 years in the 'case of Crimean Muslims' Rustem Emiruseinov, who is serving his sentence in colony No. 6 in Bezhetsk (Tver region, Russia), suffers from diabetes and related complications.

This was reported by 'Krym.Realii' with reference to the prisoner's wife Aliye Emiruseinova.

According to the political prisoner's wife, he has developed skin diseases, which are significantly worsened by diabetes. ''If he scratches himself, the wound becomes inflamed and does not heal for a long time. I attribute this directly to diabetes,'' she said.

Emiruseinov's health problems began in prison in Balashov, Saratov region, where he complained of severe itching in his legs and rapid weight loss - he lost 16 kilograms in two months. His eyesight had also deteriorated significantly, making it impossible for him to read and write. He was diagnosed with diabetes in the prison hospital. In April 2024, Emiruseinov was transferred to the correctional colony #6 in Bezhetsk.

Crimean political prisoner Shikhametov lost 30 kg and lost the ability to walk. Now the health of the Crimean Tatar has deteriorated significantly. In addition to weight loss, he has been diagnosed with an enlarged liver, kidney stones, high blood pressure, suspected diabetes, and destroyed intervertebral discs and joints. Because of this, he is in severe pain and takes painkillers that his family passes on to him.

''I cover a distance of 50 meters in two and a half hours. After walking, everything hurts a lot, I have to take painkillers,'' Shikhametov said.

Currently, the colony administration is deciding on the issue of hospitalization and disability. However, according to Shikhametov, the documents were supposed to be prepared in Saratov, but the doctors did not have time to do it because of the transfer.
