Olena Nozdrina , a Crimean collaborator, headed the Askania-Nova reserve, illegally created by the Russian occupiers in the Kakhovka district of Kherson region. Previously, Nozdrina has held various positions in the Crimean occupation administrations.

This was reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism, citing its own sources.

Olena Nozdrina has considerable experience of cooperation with the occupation authorities. After the annexation of Crimea, she worked in the illegal administration of Simferopol and the occupation Ministry of Property and Land Relations. She also participated in the illegal elections, working in the precinct election commission. The traitor has been working in the reserve for more than a year, where she initially came to the position of deputy director.

According to YouControl, Nozdrina is the head of the horticultural society 'Trykotovanyk' and the head of 'Maksel' LLC, which deals with real estate and hairdressing services. Despite the fact that Nozdrina is the director of the seized reserve, Russian propaganda media still refer to Dmitry Meshcheryakov as such. Meshcheryakov himself is now the head of another occupation institution, the 'United Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Kherson Region'. He was notified in absentia of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war, as he was involved in the removal of animals from the Askania Nova reserve in December 2023.

Russian air defense fire has destroyed a thousand hectares in the Askania-Nova reserve . According to Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, the fire engulfed 942 hectares of the protected area in the Pivdennyi massif, as well as about 104 hectares of agricultural land around it. According to preliminary data, the fire was caused by a Russian anti-aircraft system based directly on the territory of the reserve.
