Company commander convicted in Kherson region over loss of military property worth half a million

The court found the commander of a rifle company guilty of negligence in military service, which resulted in the loss of military property worth more than UAH 500,000 to the state.

This was reported by the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, during 2022-2023, the serviceman improperly performed his official duties related to the accounting, storage and control of material assets necessary for the performance of combat missions.

As a result, military property worth more than half a million hryvnias was lost.

This includes property of the missile and artillery services, support forces, the material service, the communications group, and information systems. Among the lost items are ammunition, other munitions, special protection elements, army pyrotechnics, military uniforms, tactical footwear and military communications equipment.

The prosecutor's office emphasized that this property was used to provide the military with supplies during combat missions.

The court found the company commander guilty under the article on negligent attitude to military service. He was sentenced to a two-year service restriction with 20% of his salary deducted to the state.

In addition, the court fully satisfied the prosecutor's civil claim for damages.

During the pre-trial investigation, the defendant partially compensated for the state's losses.

Earlier, the Kyiv Court of Odesa approved the agreement concluded by the lieutenant colonel and the prosecutor on pleading guilty to influence peddling. According to the investigation, the serviceman promised to influence the decision to receive a deferral from mobilization in exchange for money. He was sentenced to two years in prison, but commuted to two years of service in a disciplinary battalion.
