City council member found shot dead in Odesa

The man's body was found in a car on a street in the city - police do not rule out the possibility that he may have committed suicide with a firearm.

According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, an investigative team is working at the scene.

All the circumstances of the incident are being established. The issue of legal classification and registration in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations is being resolved. The police reported that the deceased was a deputy of the city council. The name has not been officially disclosed, but sources say that it is deputy Oleksandr Ivanitsky. In the city council, he was a member of the "Trust the Deeds" faction from 2010 to 2015, then was re-elected to the Odesa City Council. He headed the permanent deputy commission on housing and communal services.

In 1997, he graduated from the Odesa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, specializing in industrial and civil construction, with a degree in civil engineering. In 2010, he graduated from the Odesa National Law Academy with a degree in law, qualification as a lawyer. He completed postgraduate studies at the Odesa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Candidate of Technical Sciences. He has one patent for an invention and seven scientific publications.

Oleksandr Ivanitskiy was born in Odesa. From 1997 to 2005, he was a director of Mercury-S Limited Liability Company. From 2005 to 2010, he was Deputy Head of Housing Construction at Bridge Construction Unit No. 23 of Mostobud Open Joint Stock Company in Kyiv.

From 2007 to 2013, he was the Head of the Legal Department of Winner-Odesa Limited Liability Company, and in 2011 he served as Deputy Mayor of Chornomorsk, then Ilyichevsk. In 2013, he became the first deputy head of the Reniiskyi District Administration of Odesa Region. From 2013 to 2014, he was the head of the Bilyayivka District State Administration of Odesa Oblast. From 2014 to 2017, he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Ilyichevsk Shipyard. From 2017 to the present, he has been Deputy Executive Director for Investment and Infrastructure Development at Black Sea Fish Port LLC.
