Children hospitalized in Mykolaiv due to infection outbreak in kindergarten

Law enforcement officers in Mykolaiv are investigating the circumstances of an outbreak of an infectious disease in a kindergarten. The police received a report of cases of the disease among the pupils of the institution.

According to the Mykolaiv regional police, the information was provided by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It concerns the detection of an acute intestinal infection among children.

It has been preliminarily established that the parents of three children with symptoms of infection turned to doctors. Investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident under the article on violation of sanitary rules and regulations.

Experts are conducting a sanitary and epidemiological investigation. They are checking the quality of food, food storage conditions, the condition of the premises and staff compliance with the required standards. All the circumstances and the source of the infection are being established.

In turn, the Mykolaiv City Council noted that the situation is under control. The city authorities are cooperating with law enforcement and specialized services to find out the causes of the incident.

Currently, two children are in the city children's hospital No. 2 undermedical supervision, and another child is in the regional children's hospital.

Iryna Chumak, head of the infectious diseases ward at City Children's Hospital No. 2, said that the children were immediately examined, with swabs for bacterial intestinal infections and rapid tests for rotavirus.

According to her, the results of the bacterial tests are still pending, but rapid tests showed a positive result for rotavirus infection in two children who are in the city hospital.

The doctor explained that rotavirus infection is most often transmitted through dirty hands.

The doctors applied the appropriate treatment protocol, which is already showing positive results. The children's condition is assessed as satisfactory, with positive dynamics observed - they do not have a high fever, are active and have an appetite.

The children are provided with all the necessary medical care, and doctors continue to monitor them.

Earlier, Intent wrote that in Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers launched a pre-trial investigation into the mass poisoning of children in one of the city's entertainment venues.
