Chess Halloween tradition continued in Odesa

The Chess Halloween chess tournament for children was held in Odesa on November 1 with the participation of 67 chess players aged 5 to 16.

The event took place in the main reading room of the Odesa National Scientific Library, according to an Intent correspondent.

The participants wore masks and costumes, received sweets, and the winners were awarded medals and cups. The tournament was held under the patronage of international grandmaster, two-time European champion, winner of the Chess Olympiad, World and European Championships as a member of the Ukrainian women's national team Natalia Zhukova.

Last year, a Halloween-style chess tournament was held in Odesa on November 2 with 73 participants - children, teenagers and adult amateurs.

Earlier in October, the European Team Chess Championship ended in Batumi, Georgia. The Ukrainian team successfully performed in both events. The men's team<b> (Ruslan Ponomaryov, Andriy Volokitin, Anton Korobov, Ihor Kovalenko, Ihor Samunenkov) </b>won 7 victories with 1 draw and 1 defeat, which allowed them to win the tournament with a two-point lead and become European champions for the second time.

The women's national team<b> (Yulia Osmak, Anna Ushenina, Inna Gaponenko, Natalia Zhukova, Bozhena Piddubna)</b> won 5 victories and 4 draws. This result allowed them to become the second - only the Polish national team, which, by the way, was beaten by the Ukrainians, is ahead. In addition to team awards, our chess players received a number of individual honors

Also in October, international grandmaster from Odesa , Viktoriia Motrichko , became the world champion in women's 100 checkers. The championship was held in the city of Couva, Trinidad and Tobago. China's Saya Gansuhe took second place, and another Ukrainian, Yulia Makarenkova, won third.
