A Ukrainian businessman was sentenced to four years in prison and had all his property confiscated for collaborating with the enemy. His company, based in occupied Crimea, supplied the occupying administration in Alushta with special communications equipment worth nearly 1.3 million rubles.

This is stated in the verdict of the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv dated November 4.

The court reviewed the evidence (registration documents, bank statements, acceptance and transfer certificates, and expert reports) and found the defendant fully guilty.

The hearing was conducted under special proceedings (in absentia), as the defendant is in hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.

Special court proceedings (in absentia) are a legally defined procedure for hearing a case in court in the absence of the defendant. This procedure is applied when a person is in hiding from investigative and judicial authorities in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, in Russia, or in other countries. Despite the defendant’s absence from the courtroom, his procedural rights are fully preserved. The state is required to appoint a professional defense attorney, and the individual is notified of all hearings and decisions through official publications in the newspaper “Uryadovy Kurier” and on the website of the Judicial Authority of Ukraine. If a sentence is handed down, the actual serving of the sentence will begin upon the convicted person’s actual detention.

As established by the investigation, a Ukrainian citizen, co-founder and CEO of Bezopasnik-Krym LLC, registered the aforementioned company on the territory of the peninsula under Russian legislation as early as 2020. After Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022, the company’s director entered into direct cooperation with the occupying authorities.

Subsequently, the company entered into a municipal contract with the so-called Alushta city administration to supply the “Citizen-Police” emergency communication system. The value of the contract amounted to nearly 1.3 million rubles. The firm fully fulfilled its obligations: the equipment was handed over to the occupiers, accepted by a commission, and paid for.
