Border guard who promised men fake disability in Odesa detained in Dnipro

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the State Border Guard Service, detained a border guard in Dnipro who was caught helping men of military age avoid mobilization in January this year.

According to the SBI press service, the detainee was looking for men of military age who wanted to avoid service and travel abroad illegally.

Referring to alleged connections with medical professionals, particularly in the Odesa region, he promised to remotely organize the registration of fictitious disability without the personal presence of clients.

The cost of such a service was 12 thousand US dollars. Law enforcement officers detained the serviceman red-handed while he was receiving money from one of the clients. After the border guard was released on bail, the command decided to transfer him to a unit performing combat missions at the front.

However, the serviceman had no intention of actually serving on the front line, so he again resorted to illegal methods of resolving issues. He offered an employee of the personnel unit USD 1.9 thousand bribe to formally be registered in a combat unit, receive increased payments, but not actually participate in combat missions.

SBI officers documented the transfer of funds and detained the border guard. He was served a notice of suspicion of giving an unlawful benefit to an official. The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.

At the same time, the pre-trial investigation into the organization of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine is ongoing. Investigators are identifying all possible participants in the illegal scheme.

Earlier, the police exposed two residents of Odesa who are suspected of helping men of military age to illegally leave Ukraine. The men have already been served a notice of suspicion and face long-term imprisonment.
