Bashtanka Mayor Oleksandr Berehovoi has been suspended from office until October 19. This decision was made on September 9 by the Bashtanka District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast, which granted the investigator's request. The official will temporarily not perform his duties.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

As a reminder, the official is suspected of embezzling over a million hryvnias. According to the investigation, he misappropriated UAH 1.1 million during the purchase of military ammunition - uniforms and shoes - for a military unit at the end of 2022. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police.

On September 4, the previously detained mayor of Bashtanka, Berehovoi, was chosen as a preventive measure - detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 1.1 million. According to the investigation, Berehovoi misappropriated about a third of the funds allocated for winter clothing for the military. This happened through a scheme with overpriced procurement. In particular, the prosecutor's office announced 19 more suspicions against Mykolaiv officials.

A few days later, the mayor's wife posted the required bail for him and the mayor was released from jail. The suspicion was announced on August 19. The process of choosing a measure of restraint was accompanied by a series of events. On August 25, the court session did not take place because the judges recused themselves. On August 28, the mayor reported a deterioration in his health, which required an ambulance to be called to the court. As a result, the hearing was postponed again.

As a reminder, the mayor of Bashtanka declared a significant amount of real estate, cars, and monetary assets. His wife owns a business and received substantial income from business activities. According to the document, the official owns two residential buildings: a 65.1-m² house purchased in 2010 for UAH 299,776 and a 49.5-m² house purchased in 2008 for UAH 171,700. He also declared two non-residential premises with a total area of 389.3 m².
