Backup heat supply: Mykolaiv decided to build an energy generating complex for 800 million

Mykolaiv has planned to build a complex that will provide the city with a backup source of heat. More than eight hundred million hryvnias have been allocated for the project.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the DREAM digital recovery ecosystem.

Thus, it is planned to build a biomass power generating complex to provide a backup source of heat supply for the boiler house of the Mykolaivoblteploenergo utility company.

The total construction budget is UAH 810 million. The estimated construction duration is 60 months. The project is currently under preparation, so the sources of funding have not yet been specified.

According to the construction project description, the biomass power generation complex will consist of key components that ensure the efficient conversion of biomass into heat. The main process is the combustion of biomass (wood chips, straw, waste) in special boilers to generate heat that is supplied to the heating system.

The biomass will be stored on site, prepared (chopped, dried), and then fed to the boilers by a conveyor. The boilers will be hot water boilers with high efficiency and low temperature combustion to reduce emissions. The flue gas cleaning system will include cyclone filters, desulfurization system and catalytic converters. The heat will be supplied to the system of Mykolaivoblteploenergo through heat exchangers, and an automated control system will monitor the heat supply parameters.

The process of modernization of heating networks in Mykolaiv continues with the help of international partners. Thus, thanks to the support of the United States Agency for International Development, the company has almost completed the reconnection of four high-rise buildings to the new boiler house. The project has already closed the old boiler house, and the last section of the worn-out pipeline is being replaced.

In June, Mykolaivoblteploenergo received assistance from the Japanese government in the form of two tractors with trailers and additional equipment, twenty-two gas pressure regulators, and three hundred and thirty ball valves. The aid came through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In July, the Danish government delivered 6 solid fuel modular boilers to the city. The assistance was provided to ensure that the upcoming heating season will be held in the context of a full-scale war without risks for the townspeople. This equipment will serve as a backup source of heat supply for Mykolaiv residents in case of emergencies.
