Athlete from Mykolaiv unfurled the city's flag at the highest point in Africa

On February 5, Mykolaiv athlete Kateryna Bochkova conquered the highest point in Africa, Kilimanjaro.

This was reported by the PN resource with reference to her comment.

At the top of Kilimanjaro, Bochkova proudly raised the flag of Mykolaiv, calling it a symbol of resilience, faith and the indomitable spirit of her hometown. She noted that she was dedicating this climb to all the defenders of Ukraine, thanks to whom Ukrainians have the opportunity to live, dream and reach new heights.

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain range in Africa, with a peak of 5,895 meters above sea level. To conquer this peak, there are six different ascent routes and one separate descent route. Depending on the chosen difficulty and distance, the full cycle of climbing together with the return to the base camp lasts on average from 5 to 9 days.

On February 7, the city of Larnaca, Cyprus, also hosted the World Junior Sambo Cup. Anastasia Yeremina, a representative of Mykolaiv region, won the World Cup as part of the Ukrainian national team . The student of Mykolaiv Professional College of Physical Culture competed in the 72 kg weight category.

According to the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Athletic Association, the athlete demonstrated a high level of skill and training, which allowed her to win a gold medal at the prestigious competition.

Earlier, Oleksiy Sereda, a diver from Mykolaiv, was named one of the TOP-10 best athletes of the year 2025 by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the Association of Sports Journalists. During the celebrations on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, the award was presented to the athlete by the NOC President , Olympic champion Vadym Hutzeit and the Committee's Vice President Oleksandr Krykun.
