Armed Man Detained in Odesa for Threatening Military Personnel

Police detained a resident of Izmail district, Odesa region, for obstructing the legitimate activities of military personnel of territorial centers for recruitment and social support after he threatened them with weapons.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, a few days ago in the evening, at one of the checkpoints in the Safianivka community, servicemen of the Izmail District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support stopped two men for inspection who did not provide their documents but said that they would be brought by a friend who had been called immediately.

Soon an armed man arrived in a car. He pointed a carbine at the soldiers through the car window and threatened to use it, after which he ordered his comrades to get into the car and drove off in an unknown direction.

The investigative team of the territorial police unit tracked down all three citizens. They turned out to be local residents. The police detained the driver in accordance with the procedural procedure, and his passengers were transferred to the TCC and the JV for verification. During the search at the detainee's place of residence, the police seized the car he was driving, a smoothbore shotgun and a carbine with a silencer registered to him, as well as 158 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

"We have now collected enough evidence and served the 44-year-old suspect a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being decided. In accordance with the current legislation, the man faces imprisonment for up to eight years," said Anatoliy Marshavka, Head of the Investigation Department of the Izmail District Police Department.

The police handed over the case file to the SBU.
