The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court has set a date for consideration of the appeal against the verdict that found Ivan Marakhovsky, former deputy head of the Izmail local prosecutor's office in Odesa Oblast, and Ivan Boychenko, a former deputy of the Odesa Oblast Council, guilty.

The case will be considered on July 3, Slovo i Dilo reported.

The men were found guilty of receiving $40,000 in undue advantage. In April, the High Anti-Corruption Court passed a verdict against former Odesa Regional Council deputy Ivan Boychenko and former deputy head of the Izmail local prosecutor's office Ivan Marakhovsky, finding them guilty of taking a $40,000 bribe.

The defendants received this bribe from the director of a business enterprise for not interfering with his business. In particular, the bribe was intended for the unimpeded operation of the enterprise.

The former MP was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In addition, he was banned from holding positions in state and local government (except for elected officials) for three years and his property was confiscated. The court changed his preventive measure and increased his bail to UAH 5 million.

The former deputy head of the Izmail local prosecutor's office was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The court also deprived him of the right to hold positions in the justice system (judge, lawyer, prosecutor) for three years, confiscated his property and stripped him of his class rank of justice advisor.

Employees of the Prosecutor General's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, detained a prosecutor of the Izmail local prosecutor's office in Odesa region and a deputy of the Odesa regional council for extorting and receiving a bribe of USD 40,000 from an entrepreneur. In return, they promised to help the businessman with his business.

The deputy of the Odesa Regional Council Ivan Boychenko was one of the three largest holders of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin in the amount of 5750 BTC. This rating was compiled by Bitcoin Magazine Ukraine.
