An SUV exploded in the courtyard of a high-rise building in Odesa; the driver was injured

A crossover exploded in the Peresypsky District of Odesa on the morning of July 28. The 49-year-old driver was injured in the incident.

This was reported by the Odessa Regional Police.

According to preliminary information, the explosion occurred around 8:00 a.m. in the courtyard of a high-rise building on Semen Paliy Street. The victim’s wife notified law enforcement of the incident.

It has been preliminarily determined that the man started the SUV and began driving, after which the vehicle exploded.

The 49-year-old driver sustained injuries. Medical personnel examined him at the scene.

An investigative team and the police bomb squad are currently working at the scene. Law enforcement officials are determining all the circumstances of the explosion, after which the incident will be classified accordingly under the law.

As a reminder, on May 23, a Volkswagen exploded on Universitetskaya Street in Odesa. Two people inside the vehicle were injured in the explosion. They received the necessary medical care. Investigators have not yet classified the incident.

On February 6,an explosion occurredin Odesa near a residential building on Akademika Korolyova Street. The driver of the car was killed. The Security Service, in cooperation with the National Police, carried out comprehensive measures to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved in its perpetration. The incident was classified as a terrorist attack. One theory is that the deceased may have been involved in themanufacture of the explosive, which detonated due to careless handling. He may have been planning a terrorist attack commissioned by the Russian Federation’s special services. 

On February 14, police investigators in Odesa opened a case regardinga death threatand illegal possession of a weapon following a discovery in the car of one of the city’s business owners. The incident occurred on Pedagogichna Street. The businessman himself contacted the police to report the explosive device he had discovered in his car. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and found the fuse from a hand grenade in the car’s exhaust pipe.
