Border guards of the Izmail detachment detained a large consignment of goods that were being smuggled under the guise of humanitarian aid without proper declaration through the Reni-Auto checkpoint in Odesa region.

According to the press service of the State Border Guard Service, border guards conducted an in-depth inspection of a MAN truck driven by a Moldovan citizen as it entered Ukraine.

As a result of the inspection, border guards found undeclared commercial cargo, including knitwear, medical supplies, and personal care products.

The preliminary value of the found cargo is over UAH 1 million. The goods were seized until the court decision. Odesa Customs, in turn, stated that the head of a religious community in Odesa region tried to pass off commercial goods as humanitarian aid.

Earlier, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa approved an agreement between the prosecutor and a man who sold a Volkswagen T-Roc VIN car that had been imported to Ukraine as humanitarian aid for the needs of the Legion of Honor NGO.

Under this article, the man faced three to five years in prison, but the court took into account the agreement and he got off with a fine.

During the hearing, the defendant stated that he repented of his actions, was ready to take responsibility and assist in the investigation of other cases. He also transferred the amount of bail - over UAH 60 thousand - to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Chornomorsk City Court of Odesa Region approved a plea agreement on kidnapping with the misappropriation of authority between the prosecutor and a member of a public organization who, together with his accomplices, posed as a military TCC. The man was a member of the NGO "Ukraine is a Mother". He and his two accomplices, also members of this organization, armed themselves with traumatic weapons and airsoft guns, got into a minibus and on January 12, 2025, attacked a man riding a bicycle on the road near the city of Chornomorsk.
