American publication names probable date of presidential election in Ukraine

May 25, 2025 is the first likely date for the presidential election in Ukraine,

This was reported by The Economist.

The article says that there are two dates on the lips of Kyiv politicians: January 20, 2025, the date of Donald Trump's inauguration, the first moment for any possible ceasefire and lifting of martial law, and May 25, the earliest election date being discussed.

However, President Zelenskyy 's office denies preparations for the election. Most of the publication's sources are also skeptical that elections could take place as early as 2025, as Kyiv is not the first to be flooded with such rumors. In addition, there are questions about the organization and legitimacy of the elections.

However, according to the publication, some preparations for the elections seem to have already begun. Regional election headquarters have started working on candidate lists.

The article says that if the election were held tomorrow, it would be difficult for Mr. Zelensky to repeat the success of the landslide victory he won in 2019. Almost three years into the Russian invasion, he is no longer seen as the undisputed war leader he once was. Internal polls seen by the American publication suggest that in the second round, Zelenskyy may have poor chances of winning over the current Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, who has not yet voiced his political ambitions, although many are calling for him to run. At the same time, the current president of Ukraine has the best chances when he is opposed to other opposition figures.

Earlier it was reported that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the date of early parliamentary elections. They may be held on February 23, 2025.
