Activist Yashar Shikhametov was taken to the Detention Center No. 37 in the village of Yaya, Kemerovo region of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by Krym. Realii, citing the stories of the convict's relatives.

Human rights activists believe that Shikhametov is being persecuted for public actions of the party's supporters against political repression in Crimea, systematic criticism of the Russian authorities and for mass disloyalty among Crimean Tatars in response to the events of 2014.

Earlier, Shikhametov had already served the first four years of his sentence in a prison in the city of Balashov, Saratov region of the Russian Federation.

On February 17, 2021, massive searches took place in Crimea in Belogorsk, Bakhchisarai, Simferopol, Sevastopol and the Sovetsky district of Crimea. Lenur Seidametov, Timur Yalkabov, Azamat Eyupov, Yashar Shikhametov, Ernest Ibragimov and Oleg Fedorov were taken to the FSB office in Crimea after investigative measures were carried out at their homes.

The Crimean Tatars were accused of involvement in the activities of the religious organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in Russia, which operates without restriction under national legislation in Ukraine and many countries around the world.

In 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don, Russia, sentenced cook Yashar Shikhametov to 11 years in prison on terrorism charges.

Released from imprisonment in Russia, where he spent 10 years in prison, Euromaidan activist Andriy Kolomiets was placed in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi territorial center for recruitment and social support in Odesa region.

Repressions in the occupied Crimea remain systemic and directed against representatives of the indigenous people. The monitoring confirms the duration and scale of human rights violations on the peninsula.
