Police detained a woman in Odesa region on suspicion of organizing a corruption scheme to obtain a driver's license.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the woman was looking for clients and assured them that, as she had connections in a regional service center, she would help them pass exams and get a driver's license.

The price of the issue was USD 750 in reward. The police detained the woman while she was receiving the bribe. She was served a notice of suspicion of aiding and abetting an official in obtaining an undue advantage for himself/herself for the failure of such an official to perform any action in the interests of the person providing the undue advantage using their official position, combined with extortion (Article 27(5), Article 368(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the incriminated article provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

Measures are being taken to identify individuals, including employees of the regional service center, who may be involved in the corruption scheme.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine to imprison for five years a Moldovan citizen, Serhii Neruh, who was caught trying to bribe a military prosecutor of the Southern region of Ukraine for USD 75 thousand to lift the arrest of a vessel detained in Odesa region.

The Supreme Court upheld the prosecutor's position and denied the defense's request to review these decisions. Thus, the High Anti-Corruption Court, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Supreme Court found the citizen guilty of committing a crime under Article 369(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with a special confiscation. The ruling of the Supreme Court is final and cannot be appealed.
