A soldier from Kherson brigade shoots down his first Shahed with a machine gun

A soldier of the mobile firing group of the Kherson anti-aircraft missile brigade shot down his first Shahed in the sky over the Mykolaiv region. It happened on the night of January 7.

According to the South Air Command, the defender shot down a Russian Shahed attack drone by hitting the air target with a Kanik heavy machine gun.

Ilya is 55 years old, he joined the army only six months ago, having voluntarily applied to the recruitment center to get to the front line. Despite his age, the man considers it his duty to defend the country from the occupiers.

"Yes, I'm quite old, but I can't sit on the sidelines and watch the crimes of the occupiers. Today, everyone must defend Ukraine, and I am happy to be honored to be a defender," said Ilya.

This is the first "Shahed" the fighter has shot down. Ilya shot down a Russian drone in the sky over his native land, where he was born and raised.

Earlier, Intent wrote that on the night of January 7, air defense forces in Mykolaiv region destroyed two enemy drones of the Shahed 131/136 type.

Also, in Mykolaiv, a vegetable oil tank on the territory of an agricultural enterprise was damaged as a result of the fall of the wreckage of a Russian drone. It happened on the night of December 28.

Environmentalists have calculated that the preliminary environmental damage in the Mykolaiv region after the spill of vegetable oil into the Bug estuary amounts to approximately 45 billion, but it is not final.

On the first day of the new year, the Russian army attacked the Mykolaiv region with ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones. However, they did not achieve their goals.

On New Year's Eve, the Russian occupiers struck Mykolaiv district with camikaze drones and fired artillery at the Ochakiv community.
