Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations, in collaboration with the National Police, uncovered a scheme in the Mykolaiv region involving the illegal influence on decisions regarding conscripts. According to the investigation, a lawyer and a law enforcement officer were involved in the scheme.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).

The investigation established that a local lawyer offered clients, for a fee, assistance in removing them from the wanted lists of territorial recruitment and social support centers, as well as in obtaining a medical exemption from military service.

To carry out the scheme, she enlisted the help of a law enforcement officer who, according to investigators, used his connections among the leadership of one of the district recruitment and social support centers in the Mykolaiv region.

The cost of such “services” was 29,000 U.S. dollars.

Law enforcement officers caught the suspects in the act while they were receiving another installment of the agreed-upon sum and removing a person subject to military conscription from the wanted list.

The law enforcement officer was notified of his status as a suspect in receiving an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The issue of imposing a preventive measure and suspending him from office is currently being decided. The penalty under this article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment.

The National Police are investigating the criminal case against the attorney. She has also been notified of suspicion of abuse of influence.

The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) noted that the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officials are identifying all individuals who may have been involved in the scheme, including officials from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center and the Social Protection Department.

Recently, employees of the State Bureau of Investigations completed a pre-trial investigation into officials at one of the district territorial recruitment and social support centers in Mykolaiv Oblast, who are suspected of illegally detaining and torturing a man during mobilization activities.

In addition, following an inspection by representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, six men who had no legal grounds for detention were released from the assembly point of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center; Among them was a man withbroken ribs, as well as individuals who had legal grounds for deferment from mobilization.
