A marine fighter was held accountable in court for negligence in storing weapons during mobilization. He will pay almost 350 thousand in compensation.

The verdict in the case of the loss of military property was announced by the Snihuriv District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast.

The defendant, a 37-year-old native of Poltava, served as a rifleman and medic in a marine battalion. He was found guilty of violating the rules of weapons storage, which led to the loss of a Colt M4 assault rifle worth over 42 thousand hryvnias. The incident occurred on November 5, 2023, when the rifle was left unattended in an armored all-terrain vehicle in a forest belt near Halahanivka, Bashtanka district.

During the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty and sincerely repented. He explained that it was the first time he had committed negligence, admitted his guilt and partially compensated for material damage.

The court, taking into account mitigating circumstances, including sincere repentance and active assistance in solving the crime, sentenced him to two years of suspended imprisonment with a one-year probation period.

In addition, a part of the civil claim was satisfied: the defendant will be charged over UAH 343 thousand as compensation for uncompensated damage.

In the Mykolaiv region, a court sentenced a resident of Snihurivka to six years in absentia for cooperation and collaboration with the occupiers. She held the position of an accountant at an enterprise and implemented the invaders' policies.
