A Russian sniper has been charged with torturing a resident of the Mykolaiv region

The commander of a Russian sniper platoon has been accused of mistreating a civilian in the Mykolaiv region. He faces 8 to 12 years in prison.

This was reported to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. 

According to the investigation, during the occupation of the Bashtanka District, the suspect and his accomplices detained a local resident, beat him with the butt of a rifle, and pretended to cut off parts of his body with a knife, demanding information about pro-Ukrainian individuals. The captive was forced to hold a combat grenade in his hands and was threatened with rape and murder.

The Russian serviceman is charged with violating the laws and customs of war, committed as part of a premeditated conspiracy by a group of individuals.

Earlier, prosecutors in Kherson filed charges in absentia against the commander of a Russian Armed Forces reconnaissance platoon who tortured civilians in Oleshky, which was flooded after the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant was blown up. The occupier, along with his accomplices, illegally detained two men in a high-rise building, subjecting them to brutal torture.

The civilians were taken to an apartment on the ninth floor of the high-rise building, where they were forcibly held for 10 days. They were not given enough food or water and were not allowed to use the restroom. It was not until late June 2023 that both victims were released.
