A mural dedicated to the Ukrainian military who took part in the battles in Kherson region and the southern part of Ukraine and gave their lives for Ukraine has been created in Odesa. The mural depicts three soldiers of the 39th Separate Marine Brigade - Svyatoslav Aleksapolsky, Vitaliy Nesterenko and Denys Kucherenko.

This was reported on the Facebook page of the 39th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy.

The mural was created at the corner of Olhiyivskyi Descent and Manezhna Street. It was created as a symbol of the memory of the defenders who showed courage during the battles in Kherson region, in particular on the left bank of the Dnipro River.

A special place among the heroes is occupied by Denys Kucherenko, who was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine by presidential decree on March 14, 2025. In August 2023, during a combat mission, his boat came under fire. The soldier ordered his comrades to leave the vessel and, maneuvering, covered their retreat, saving five soldiers. In a few days, he completed 10 combat missions, ferried soldiers across the Dnipro River and evacuated the wounded.

Vitaliy Nesterenko, who was also awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, served in a reconnaissance unit and took part in battles on the left bank of the Kherson region. In October 2023, he was fatally wounded while performing a combat mission.

Sviatoslav Aleksapolskyi is another hero immortalized on the mural. He went from serving in the internal troops to participating in the defense of Kyiv and battles in the south. In 2022, during a counteroffensive in the Kherson sector, the soldier was killed while leading an attack group after the commander was wounded.

The authors of the mural note that its creation is a way to preserve the memory of the feat of Ukrainian soldiers and remind them of the price of the struggle for independence.

As a reminder, on the morning of May 3, the Russian military attacked Kherson using drones. Around 05:50, a civilian car carrying employees of a local company was hit.

Shortly after the first attack, the occupiers made a second attack. An ambulance that arrived at the scene came under fire.
