In Mykolaiv, a foreigner was detained who, together with a military man, extorted money and a car from a local resident, threatened to kill him and beat the victim. The serviceman is wanted, and the foreigner is in custody.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

Prosecutors of the Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office have served notices of suspicion to two men who are accused of extortion on a large scale, combined with infliction of grievous bodily harm (Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The men are a 43-year-old foreigner and a 34-year-old serviceman of one of the RTCs and JVs in Mykolaiv. The latter was served a notice of suspicion in absentia.

According to the investigation, at the end of March 2025, the men entered into a criminal conspiracy. They began to put pressure on a local resident, demanding repayment of a non-existent debt. The foreigner threatened the victim with murder and beatings, demanding money. The victim, perceiving the threats as real, twice transferred a total of UAH 41,500 to the attacker's account.

But this was not enough for the attackers. They demanded that the car be transferred to them for further sale. In June, under the control of law enforcement officers, the victim handed over $500. During the meeting, the foreigner hit the man in the head, showed him a gun-like object, and made new demands - to give him the car keys and another $3,500.

On June 6, the victim, cooperating with the police, handed over the specified amount of cash. After that, the foreigner was detained in Mykolaiv. A preventive measure of detention without bail was imposed on him. The military accomplice is currently wanted.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Mykolaiv Region Main Police Department under the SBU operational support.

In May, a fraudulent scheme to evade mobilization was exposed in Mykolaiv. Since October 2023, three men - a 70-year-old father, his 42-year-old son and a 64-year-old accomplice - have been extorting tens of thousands of dollars from an acquaintance, promising to "influence" the decision of the military commissariat. One of them introduced himself as an employee of the TCC, guaranteed "protection" from conscription, and even threatened to send the victim to the front if he refused to pay. All three were detained while delivering another bribe.
