A resident of Kherson who helped Russians organize pseudo-elections during the city's occupation will stand trial.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the indictment against the man, who is accused of collaboration, has been sent to court.

According to the case file, in September 2022, the accused voluntarily became a member of the so-called "precinct election commission" organized by the occupation authorities in the Dniprovsky district of Kherson.

According to the investigation, the man took an active part in holding illegal "elections" in the occupied territory. He was engaged in checking "voters", issuing ballots and even agitated local residents to participate in fake voting, supporting the idea of Kherson region's secession from Ukraine and its accession to the Russian Federation.

Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office, the defendant will now stand trial for violating Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for collaboration. The man faces a prison term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of ten to fifteen years and with or without confiscation of property.

Meanwhile, a resident of Henichesk who resettled Russian soldiers in other people's homes, helped set up checkpoints and supported passport issuance on the left bank of Kherson region faces up to 12 years in prison.

Recently, the court sentenced a resident of Chornobaivka who organized a base for Russian military equipment and helped to resettle Russians during the occupation of Kherson region. The man was found guilty of aiding the aggressor state and sentenced to 10 years.

The former head of Volodymyrivka village Olena Zavorikhina, who had sided with the Russians on her own, was also sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
