A language scandal erupts over a gazebo in an Odesa park

Odesa is once again in the spotlight - and not because of personnel changes in the city council or international investments, but because of an issue that has not lost its acuteness since the beginning of the war: what language is spoken here.

The incident in the city park again raised the topic of language tension, which periodically flares up even in peaceful everyday life - this is what Intent' s Accent is all about.

The scandal started not because of the language, but because the elderly women wanted to move the young journalists to another table in the gazebo at any cost. For some reason, it was important for the old ladies to sit at the table where the young girls were finishing their work, even though the table next to it was completely free and there was enough room for three of them. In the course of the argument, the aggressive pensioners began to mention the "Russian-speaking city of Odesa" and send the girls to Lviv or Kyiv.

The park's director told Intent that the gazebo was indeed installed at the request of the pensioners, but this does not mean that it is only for them.
