Police in Odesa detained a man suspected of contract killing of a businessman in Kyiv on July 8.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

Investigators of the Desnianskyi Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Desnianskyi District Prosecutor's Office, served the offender a notice of suspicion under paragraph 11 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - premeditated murder committed for hire. At the request of law enforcement officers, the offender will be kept in custody. He faces up to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment for his crime.

Law enforcement officers found out that the victim, a resident of Kyiv, was inside the minibus when an unknown person approached him and fired twice in his direction, after which he fled. The man died at the scene as a result of gunshot wounds.

"As a result of the special operation, we found and seized the suspected weapon, which the offender got rid of. After the crime, the suspect used disguises and left for Odesa the same day. Thanks to the coordinated work of the Kyiv and Odesa police operatives, with the force support of the KORD special forces, we detained the suspect in a hotel. It was a 41-year-old foreigner. We are currently considering several versions," said Andriy Garastiuk, head of the Kyiv Criminal Police.

In June, unidentified persons shot a young man in the back of the head in the center of Odesa and wounded him. According to preliminary information from law enforcement, a local resident had a conflict with unknown persons, during which he was shot with a weapon. The victim was taken to the hospital. Other participants in the incident fled the scene.

In May, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa began considering the case of Mykola Mayorenko, who is accused of attempting to murder two public figures - businessman Gennadiy Beibutyan and Demyan Hanul.
