In the Black Sea, maritime border guards rescued a crew member of the dry cargo ship VENTURO, which had been attacked by a Russian strike drone the day before. The search and rescue operation took place on the night of July 19.

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, on the evening of July 18, personnel from the 26th Border Guard Detachment used surveillance equipment to spot a lifeboat at sea. A Coast Guard boat was immediately dispatched to assist.

Border guards evacuated the ship’s electrical engineer—a Filipino citizen—who had been left adrift in the open sea following the attack. Earlier, most of the VENTURO’s crew had already been evacuated by Ukrainian Navy personnel.

The rescue operation took place under difficult conditions—at night and under the constant threat of repeated attacks by Russian drones. Despite the danger, the sailor was successfully brought to safety.

After an examination, medical personnel determined that the rescued man was in satisfactory condition and did not require medical attention.
