A director from Kherson has been named among the top nominees for the "Golden Spinning Top" award

Dmytro Moiseev, a director from Kherson, has become one of the leading contenders for the 10th anniversary edition of the "Golden Spinning Top" National Film Awards. His feature film“Gray Bees,” based on the novel of the same name by Andriy Kurkov, was nominated in 11 categories and won the award for Best Makeup.

According to the publication “Detector Media,” the winners of the 10th “Golden Spinning Top” National Film Awards were announced on July 25. This year, awards were presented in 21 main categories, as well as in the special categories “Discovery of the Year” and “Contribution to the Development of Ukrainian Cinema.”

One of the frontrunners in terms of the number of nominations was the film “Gray Bees,” directed by Kherson native Dmytro Moiseev. The film was nominated in 11 categories, second only to “You Are the Cosmos,” which was nominated for 12 awards.

At the end of the ceremony, “Gray Bees” won in the “Best Makeup” category. The award went to Tetyana Tatarenko, who worked on the characters’ appearances in the film.

In addition, the film was nominated in the most prestigious category, “Best Film.” Dmytro Moiseev himself was nominated in two key categories—“Best Director” and “Best Screenplay.”

"Gray Bees" was also nominated in the categories of Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Special Effects, Best Actor (Viktor Zhdanov), Best Supporting Actor (Volodymyr Yamnenko), and other categories.

The big winner at this year’s awards was the film “You Are the Universe” by director Pavel Ostrikov. The film received the top prize for “Best Film” and also won in a number of other categories, including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Music, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Special Effects, and Best Production Design, and was named the audience’s favorite film.

"Gray Bees" is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ukrainian writer Andriy Kurkov. The film is set in the “gray zone” of Donbas on the eve of a full-scale invasion and tells the story of two elderly men who remain in an almost abandoned village.
