At the beginning of the new school year, 131 educational institutions in the Kherson community were damaged.

According to Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson MVA, these are 198 buildings. Seven of them are completely destroyed, 22 have a critical level of damage.

The official added that the constant threat of artillery shelling, attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles and other military operations makes it difficult to carry out construction or repair work. At the same time, measures are being taken to repair the damage, where the security situation allows, in cooperation with the services of the city military administration, utilities, and public organizations.

Earlier it was reported that on August 16, the military of the Russian occupation army finished off the first in Ukraine and the only in Kherson region"green school", which was created on the basis of school No. 21 in Antonivka. The invaders attacked the unique school twice in half a day, causing irreparable damage. The educational institution, built with the help of the Finnish government, received its first two hundred students in 2016. It was an extraordinary event for the whole of Ukraine - the green school was built according to European energy-saving principles. It had an air purification and recovery system installed on the ceiling. There were no pipes or batteries inside the building. The heat was provided by solar panels on the roof. While extinguishing the fire that finally destroyed the "green school," rescuers came under repeated enemy fire. A fire truck was damaged. No one was injured.

It was also said that work had begun on the construction of an underground school in Kherson. In early July, during a meeting in Kherson, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi was informed of plans to build an underground school in Kherson, where 900 children will study in two shifts. Work in this direction is already underway, and land plots for the future school have been selected. The construction period is expected to be 6 to 9 months.
