During the year of operation of the "sea corridor" in the Black Sea, Ukrainian ports received more than 2,300 vessels, and the volume of cargo transportation exceeded 64 million tons.

This is stated on the Government portal.

According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, almost 44 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine. Shmyhal noted that Ukrainian exporters increased sales by 35% in the first half of 2024, reaching the pre-war level of exports.

He added that from the first day of its invasion, Russia did everything to block Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea. In this way, the enemy put pressure on the economy of Ukraine and its allies, creating threats to global food security. Shmyhal reminded that the grain corridor was made possible by three things.

"The first and most important thing is the successful actions of our Security and Defense Forces in the Black Sea. The second is a unique initiative to insure war risks for merchant ships, which we are doing together with international insurance companies. The third is the restoration of Ukraine's port infrastructure and investments in its development," the Prime Minister explained.

After Russia withdrew from the grain deal, the ports of Greater Odesa were blockaded, which posed a serious threat to global food security, as Ukraine is one of the world's main grain suppliers.

Accordingly, with the help of the UN and Turkey, Ukraine has organized a humanitarian corridor that allowed it to resume grain exports and provide access to more than 40 countries.

Earlier, the military reported that the capacity of the Ukrainian maritime corridor had been expanded over the past six months.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine reported that a record amount of cargo was transported during the 10 months of the Ukrainian Sea Corridor's operation.
